Greetings from the Free the States team! The purpose of this questionnaire is to gauge your stance regarding the abolition of abortion, the abolitionist movement, and abortion-related legislation. In 2019, the Oklahoma Baptists, Oklahoma Free Will Baptists, and Oklahoma Republican Party all amended their platforms to call for the Abolition of Abortion in Oklahoma Act. In 2020, roughly 2,500 Oklahomans came to the capitol for the Abolition Day rally and 107 pastors signed a petition asking for the Senate to hear SB13. Despite broad public support, it was denied a hearing and killed by a motion to table it for the session.
In the next year, two more abolitionists were elected to the State Senate, with Warren Hamilton unseating incumbent pro-lifer Larry Boggs in SD7 and Jake Merrick winning an open seat in an SD22 special election. Still, the pro-life Republican establishment killed Hamilton's abolition bill in 2021.
Continuing on the abolitionist momentum, in June 2021, the Southern Baptist Convention -- the nation's largest Christian denomination -- made abolitionism their official position. Leading the charge within the convention were Oklahoma pastors including Dusty Deevers, Cory Anderson, Bill Ascol, Brett Baggett, Brandon Allen, Chris Gore, and Blake Gideon. The inevitable spread of abolitionism to all corners of the American Church and conservative politics became apparent.
We are looking for abolitionist candidates to endorse who will listen to the Church of Jesus Christ and the people of Oklahoma; who will work to establish justice by the means outlined in God's Word. Your answers to these questions will help us determine whether Free the States will be able to endorse you. Please answer honestly. There may be partial endorsements given on a case-by-case basis. We may contact you to discuss further.
Note: For questions 5-8, by “incremental pro-life bill,” we mean any piece of abortion-related legislation that does not establish equal protection for preborn children by totally and immediately abolishing abortion as murder.
