1 Step 1
Candidate Questionnaire

Greetings from the Free the States team! The purpose of this questionnaire is to gauge your stance regarding the abolition of abortion, the abolitionist movement, and abortion-related legislation. In 2019, the Oklahoma Baptists, Oklahoma Free Will Baptists, and Oklahoma Republican Party all amended their platforms to call for the Abolition of Abortion in Oklahoma Act. In 2020, roughly 2,500 Oklahomans came to the capitol for the Abolition Day rally and 107 pastors signed a petition asking for the Senate to hear SB13. Despite broad public support, it was denied a hearing and killed by a motion to table it for the session.

In the next year, two more abolitionists were elected to the State Senate, with Warren Hamilton unseating incumbent pro-lifer Larry Boggs in SD7 and Jake Merrick winning an open seat in an SD22 special election. Still, the pro-life Republican establishment killed Hamilton's abolition bill in 2021.

Continuing on the abolitionist momentum, in June 2021, the Southern Baptist Convention -- the nation's largest Christian denomination -- made abolitionism their official position. Leading the charge within the convention were Oklahoma pastors including Dusty Deevers, Cory Anderson, Bill Ascol, Brett Baggett, Brandon Allen, Chris Gore, and Blake Gideon. The inevitable spread of abolitionism to all corners of the American Church and conservative politics became apparent.

We are looking for abolitionist candidates to endorse who will listen to the Church of Jesus Christ and the people of Oklahoma; who will work to establish justice by the means outlined in God's Word. Your answers to these questions will help us determine whether Free the States will be able to endorse you. Please answer honestly. There may be partial endorsements given on a case-by-case basis. We may contact you to discuss further.

Note: For questions 5-8, by “incremental pro-life bill,” we mean any piece of abortion-related legislation that does not establish equal protection for preborn children by totally and immediately abolishing abortion as murder.

1) I will author or coauthor the Abolition of Abortion in Oklahoma Act - or an equivalent act by a different name - and will vote in favor of it. (You can read the 2021 version here if you haven't already.)

2) I will boldly and publicly support the Abolition of Abortion in Oklahoma Act and the cause of abolition.

3) I will do these things in support of abolishing abortion even if it means standing up to the Republican and pro-life establishments.

4) I agree with all of the five components of an abolition bill. (You can read the five components here if you haven’t already.)

5) I agree that incremental pro-life bills delay the abolition of abortion by serving as a substitute for abolition that allows legislators to prevent abortion's abolition but salvage their pro-life credibility.

6) I agree that incremental pro-life bills, by regulating and therefore allowing the murder of human beings, are both unBiblical and unconstitutional.

7) I agree that incremental pro-life bills dehumanize preborn children. (If unsure, see point three of this article for an explanation).

8) Because incremental pro-life bills are unBiblical and unconstitutional, because they delay the abolition of abortion by serving as a substitute for abolition, and because they dehumanize preborn children, I will not coauthor any incremental pro-life bills and I will not vote for them.
